Built in the middle of the 19th century and designed by Josef Ondřej Kranner, an important architect of his time, for many decades the building served as a place of rest and refuge for the
residents and visitors of the city of Prague, which became the owner of the property in 1906. After the revolution in 1989, this oldest preserved river spa building in Prague was put into the hands of businessmen.

In 2002, when the site was severely affected by flooding, a British company purchased the shares in Royal Admiral Yacht Club a.s. and an ownership interest in BIG-HAM s.r.o, the tenant of Občanská plovárna under a lease contract with the Prague City Council. Thus, the company set itself a challenging task to restore the place to its former glory and glance.
